Life Legacy

Myles James Scallan, affectionately known as “Pa”, departed this life to be with the Lord Jesus on December 12, 2012, passing peacefully with his family by his side at his home in Bowie, MD. He was born August 30, 1928 in East Chicago Indiana, the son of Thomas Francis and Margaret Hood Scallan.
Myles was the beloved husband of Geraldine Frances Scallan, with whom he cherished 55 years of marriage together before her passing in 2010. In his early years, Myles lived on the family farm in Great Falls, MT and later moved to Coulee Dam, WA. He attended Washington State University for two years before enlisting in the US Army in 1951 where he served until 1954. He worked as an analyst at the National Security Agency until his retirement after 35 years of service.
Myles brought strength and stability to his family as a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was a man of wisdom and integrity and left a legacy of hope and joy. He was a friend to many and will be remembered for his contagious positive outlook on life, infectious smile, witty sense of humor, and generous and joyful spirit. As a sports enthusiast, he was a diehard Yankees fan, avid bowler, golfer and puzzle solver who spent many happy days attempting to bowl 300, golf his age or below and complete countless jigsaw puzzles.
Myles is survived by his two daughters, Maureen Garmey and her husband Jim of Charlottesville, VA and Sharon Przygoda and her husband Bruce of Odenton, MD, and his granddaughters, Sarah Garmey, Laura Soots, and Cayla and Kiera Przygoda. He is also survived by his brother Scotty Scallan of Coulee Dam WA, sister, Aggie Martin of Baton Rouge, LA, and Margie Whitelaw of Denver CO.
Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy., (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 3 to 5pm.
