Shirley Louise Gartner

Shirley Louise Gartner, 87, a ten year resident of Crofton and previously of Missouri and Florida, passed away peacefully September 15, 2017 in the Regency Park Assisted Living Community, Gambrills, MD.  She was born in Washington DC to Nora and Walter Gartner. Shirley worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Refund Division of the IRS. After retiring in 1978, she owned and operated Wheeler's Hardware Store in Deale, Maryland.Her hobbies included sewing, needlework, embroidery and creating fine jewelry, as well as other arts and crafts. She also collected china.  Shirley enjoyed watching the birds and other wildlife at the large pond behind her home in Crofton.  She was preceded in death by her sons John and William Rowles. She is survived by her son Michael Rowles, her brother Walter Gartner and her sister Ruth Griffin. She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.At her request, there will be no funeral. Shirley will be interred at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD, 21093.
