Alfredo Gaetano Asero

March 29, 1932 — April 24, 2025

Bowie, MD

The Funeral Mass will be streamed beginning at 10 a.m.

Alfredo Gaetano Asero passed peacefully into the Lord’s care on the morning of April 24, 2025, at the age of 93.

Known to friends and loved ones as “Big Al,” he was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1932 but spent his childhood in his family home of Nicolosi, Sicily.

At the age of seventeen, Alfredo immigrated to the United States and settled in Northeast D.C., where he met his beloved wife of 66 years, Dolores.

Shortly after coming to America, he became a citizen and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he honorably served his new country for two years supporting U.S. military operations in Korea.

He married Dolores in 1959, and the two moved to Bowie, Maryland, to build the family that would become the center of his life for more than six decades.

Alfredo was a proud and devoted father to Theresa Meinert (Joseph), Joseph Asero (Sally), Anthony Asero (Eileen), and Christine Asero; grandfather to Monica Meinert, Lia Neice (Derek), Michael Asero and Thomas Asero (Judy); and great-grandfather to Callum Neice.

Despite time and distance, Alfredo never lost his Italian accent, or his connection to his Italian homeland. He and Dolores visited Italy twice over the years, once in 1959 and again with their children in 1975. He maintained close relationships with his nephews, Santo Consoli (Letitzia) and Salvatore Consoli (Anna), and cared deeply for his great-nieces and nephews: Elisa, Alberto, Valeria, Eugenia and Carlo.

Alfredo was a master barber for many years, serving customers in both Washington D.C., and Bowie, and also spent several years as an office administrator for USLico insurance company. He was a parishioner of St. Pius X church in Bowie since its founding in 1962. At work, at church, and at home, he was known for his good humor and gentle spirit, bringing smiles to everyone who crossed his path.

Alfredo is preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Theresa; his parents, Salvatore and Maria Teresa; and his sister, Santina. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a man of steadfast faith and quiet strength, who lived simply but loved boundlessly.

Alfredo’s family will receive visitors at Beall Funeral Home, located at 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20715, on Thursday, May 1 from 1-4 p.m. A funeral mass will follow on Friday, May 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, located at 14716 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715.
