Alma Amelia (Bumpas) Robinson, 95, passed away on May 4, 2026, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was surrounded by her family and caregiver, Diana McConnell, at the time of her passing.

Alma was born in Reidsville, Caswell County, NC, on March 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Ella (Graves) Bumpas.

She was educated in local schools and attended Booker T. Washington High School, graduating in 1949. Alma moved to Boston, MA, in the early 1950’s where she met her late husband, Harvey Benson Robinson.

Alma worked for Raytheon for 38 years. She was a quality central data analyst on Apollo 11, Trident, Poseidon, and Doppler Radar System Programs. She was the first black female employee at Raytheon in Waltham, MA, to be promoted to a management position.

She had a passion for traveling and especially loved the Grand Canyon and Hawaii. Alma was an active member of People’s Baptist Church in Boston, MA. Alma worked on the fundraising, hospitality, and repass committees and volunteered in the pastor’s office.

After the passing of her husband of 45 years, Alma moved to Maryland in 2004 and lived with family in Odenton. She worked as a volunteer for the Anne Arundel Department of Aging. She became a member of St John Baptist Church in Columbia, MD, and volunteered on church committees.

Alma was preceded in death by two sisters, Felicia Pugh of NY and Hazel Humphrey of MA and one brother, James Bumpas of MA.

She leaves to mourn her two daughters: Lisa Robinson and Michelle Barker and her husband, Vonzell Barker of Odenton, MD, her stepdaughter, Cecelia Robinson of Decatur, GA, her two sisters: Barbara Kennedy of Upstate, NY, and Rosetta Broadwater of Hanover, MA, her three brothers: Robert Lee Bumpas of Brockton, MA, Ervin Bumpas of Reidsville, NC, and Leotis Bumpas of Reidsville, NC, her granddaughter, Tiara Patterson of Milton, MA, her great-granddaughter, Payton Elizabeth Cockrell of Milton, MA and a host of extended family and friends.
