Deacon Andrew J. Nosacek April 15, 1930 – October 10, 2025

Deacon Andrew J. Nosacek, a devoted servant of faith, family, and public service, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 95 years old.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 15, 1930, to Alois Nosacek and Anna (Masaryk) Nosacek, Andrew experienced early hardship with the passing of both parents during his childhood. He was raised at St. Aemilian’s Orphan Asylum, where he lived until June 1943. Despite these challenges, he demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination throughout his life.

He attended Bishop Messmer Catholic High School while working as an indentured servant for various families, laboring on a farm, in a bakery, and at a grocery store. He graduated from Marquette University in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Journalism. Although he started to pursue graduate studies toward a Master of Philosophy, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he served until the war ended in 1953.

After his military service, Andrew earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin School of Law. He began his legal career in private practice in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, before joining the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C., in 1962, where he served as a principal attorney until his retirement in 1995.

Answering a deeper call later in life, Andrew was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1993 and began a second career in ministry even before retiring from law. His work included service alongside Mother Teresa at the Gift of Peace in Washington, D.C., and he remained deeply committed to the promotion of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a professed member of the Dominican Third Order.

Deacon Nosacek is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine Ann (Remkus) Nosacek; his children, Dr. Ivan J. Nosacek (Lori), Dr. Natalia M. Bassford (John), Marianne Baird (Timothy), and Monica M. Karrenbauer (Mark); and his cherished grandchildren: Richard Baird (Shannon), Jonathan Baird (Stephanie), Andrew Nosacek, Nicholas Nosacek, Courtney Baird, Alessandra Marselli, Kenneth Nosacek (Carolyn), Josesph Marselli, and Madalena Marselli. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Lennox, Daxton, Julius, and Edwin.

Throughout his long life, Andrew exemplified a spirit of humility, service, and unwavering faith. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, deacon, and friend.

Visitation will be held on October 22, 2025, at St. Pius X Church in Bowie, Maryland at 10:00 am, with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, Maryland immediately following the funeral mass.
