Ann M. Scheffer

March 11, 1927 — July 23, 2023

Bowie

Ann Marie Scheffer, aged 96, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2023, following a brief illness at Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham.

The eldest of two children, Ann was born on March 11, 1927 in New York City to Frederick and Anna (Kropf) Meditz. Ann married Herbert Ralph Scheffer on January 15, 1949 in New York City. Together they raised two children, Joyce and Dennis. Herb worked as a project manager for Levitt & Sons which prompted their move to Bowie in 1962. Both Herb and Ann were members of Bowie Elks Lodge No. 2309 where Ann served as President of the Lady Elks Auxiliary.

A first generation American, Ann enjoyed cooking foods for her family using recipes passed down from her parents who were natives of the German region of Gottschee, located in present-day Slovenia. Ann entertained a wide circle of friends whom she enjoyed socializing and traveling with, particularly to Greece and Ireland, although no location could compare to local favorite, Ocean City. Ann took annual trips to Ocean City with her family and friends for over 40 years. Ann enjoyed reading books, doing jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and playing card and dice games.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Helen (Bernard) Hoegler of Cleveland, Ohio.

Ann is survived by her daughter Joyce (Dwight) Glaze of Crofton; son Dennis (Alison) Scheffer of Dunkirk; granddaughters Stacie (Christopher) Glaze-Mow, Megan (Trey) Glaze-Keller, and Amanda (Jason) Pritchard, all of Crofton; and several great-grandchildren.

Ann will be interred alongside her husband at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton.
