September 9, 1950 – April 21, 2026

Anthony “Tony” Warren Wells, age 75, of Annapolis, Maryland, peacefully passed away on April 21, 2026. Born in Washington, D.C., on September 9, 1950, to the late Jeanette Wells Tongue. Tony grew up in Prince George’s County and graduated from Bowie High School in 1968.

A proud, decorated veteran, Tony served for many years in the United States Army. He served on active duty from 1969 to 1977. He continued his commitment in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1977 to 1983, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major (E-9). He was particularly proud of his time as a Parachute Rigger (92R), his expertise in Parachute Pack Maintenance, and his time serving as Drill Sergeant. His military honors included the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Drill Sergeant Badge, Parachute Badge, Sharpshooter Badge (M14), and Marksman Badge (M16).

Following his career in the Armed Services, Tony’s industrious nature led him to obtain his CDL, which helped him pursue several careers. He lent his skills to Prince George’s County Public Schools, Double H Food Distributors, Orkin, Metro, the U.S. Postal Service, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, U.S. Naval Academy, and Saint Martin’s Lutheran Church and School. He retired after many years of dedicated service.

Tony’s faith and community involvement were central to his life. He was a devoted member of Ebenezer AME Church in Galesville, MD, where he served on the Trustee Board and lifted his voice with the Male Chorus. He was also a respected member of The Most Worshipful Hiram Grand Lodge, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, State of Maryland Jurisdiction, Inc.

From his first marriage, Tony was blessed with two daughters, Karla and Tara. On March 14, 1992, Tony was united in Holy Matrimony to his beloved wife, Reverend Veronica “Ronnie” L. Wells, with whom he shared many happy years until her passing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ronnie, and his brother, Gordon Wells.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Karla and Tara Wells; his bonus daughter, Sherry Blackstone; and his sister, Beverly Jackson. He is also survived by his nieces: Shaunta Nichols, Sharita Lewis, and Lisa Brewer; nephews: Marcus Truehart, John “Jake” Brewer, James Brewer, and Kevin Watkins; his sisters-in-law, Augustine Pindell, Marcia Watkins, Marilyn Edwards, and Doreen Watkins; and his brothers-in-law, Gregory Watkins and Michael Pindell. Tony’s legacy of love continues through his "love" children: Jeremiah and Darren Blackstone, Julie Watkins and Adjah Savoy, and a host of relatives and friends, including his close companions Ricky Nichols, Joe “David” Wells, LaGearl Boston, Darren Smith, Diane Banks Terrell, Richard and Lynn Sirbaugh.

Tony will be remembered as a man of discipline, service, and deep-seated love for his family and church.
