Arthur Allan Augustin, a resident of Edgewater, MD, since April 1989 and of Bowie, MD, for some 20 years before that, died November 27, 2022 in Edgewater, MD.

Son of the late Blanche [Iverson] Augustin and Allan B. Augustin, Arthur was born September 19, 1928, in Menomonie, WI. The family moved to Morocco, IN, in 1931. He graduated from Morocco High School and received his B.A. degree from Valparaiso University. Except for 2 years working as a securities analyst for a Chicago investment bank after college, Mr. Augustin’s work career, which spanned 57 years, included multiple aspects of the newspaper and printing industries, culminating in a 28-year career with the U.S. Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C., and retirement in late 1995. Mr. Augustin was a long-time member of the International Typographical Union, Columbia Typographical Union 101-12, and Communication Workers of America. His interests included active outdoor sports such as tennis, skiing, biking, golf, swimming, and fishing. He had skied over 60 ski areas in the U.S. and Canada. He also bowled at Crofton Lanes for many years in leagues. He especially enjoyed concerts, plays, and other live performances over the years as well as playing bridge. Volunteer activity included playing the piano at nursing homes, donating blood 39 times, Boy Scout committeeman, Little League player agent for 8 years, umpiring in the Little and Babe Ruth Leagues several years. His travels included visiting points of interest in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, and Asia. He was author of a 170-page biography of his brother, 1st Lieut. C. R. Augustin, a fighter pilot in China during World War II. Besides his parents and brother, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann Kumpf of Cloverdale, IN; a son, Les, of Glenn Dale, MD; a daughter, Carol of Chesapeake Beach, MD, and his ex-wife Dorothy of North Beach, MD. Another sister, Florence Bunning of Muncie, IN, survives; as well as 2 of his children: Richard of Olathe, KS; Karen of Annapolis, MD; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. His companion since 1997 was Marcella Miller of Annapolis. Cremation will follow donation of his remains to the state for research, with ashes buried in Morocco, IN. A memorial service will be held at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy., Bowie, MD on January 14, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 431 18th Street, NW., Washington, DC 20006, in lieu of flowers.
