Biography Of Mr. Babalola Olufemi Atanda Davies

Babalola Olufemi Atanda Davies (JP) was born on June 10, 1952 in Lagos, Nigeria to Late Pa Rowland Olubunmi Davies of the Papa Ita Taiwo (Olowogbowo), Lagos descendants and to Late Mama Jemima Taiwo Ayinke of the Adeyinka- Olumide descendants of Kemta Oke -Jigbo, Abeokuta.

Babalola was born at the Massey Maternity Hospital, Lagos. He was the eldest of his siblings and a role he played so passionately and lovingly till his passing onto Glory on Sunday August 11, 2024.

He began his Primary School education at Methodist Primary School, Yaba in 1958 and completed his Primary School education in 1964. He later attended Lagos City College, Yaba where he completed his West African School Leaving Certificate in 1969. He also obtained the GCE "A" Level certificate. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Economics from University of Paris VIII, Paris in 1980 and 1982 respectively. He completed a Certificate Program at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC in 1999.

Babalola started gainful employment at the Yaba Magistrate Court, Yaba, Nigeria as a Court Clerk Grade 2 until he traveled out to France in 1976 to further his education. He was proficient in French Language and this aided his advancement at employment with the Embassy of Nigeria, Paris, even at that young age.

He later worked at the Credit Lyonnais, Paris before he returned to Nigeria in 1982. He completed the one-year National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) at Center Point Investment Limited, Lagos. Shortly after he secured employment with Lagos State Development and Property Corporation until 1986. He worked at the Canadian High Commission, Lagos as a Commercial Officer from 1986 - 1988 where he coordinated trade promotions and joint venture opportunities in Nigeria and Togo and monitored World Bank projects etc. He worked as a Trade/Investment Specialist with The State of Ohio African Trade Office Lagos, Nigeria and was part of a Trade Mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo and other related investment and trade support. He was at this employment until he emigrated to the United States of America in May 1990 with his wife and two sons and later the addition of a daughter born in the United States in 1998.

His career span in the United States included employment in property management as Marketing Consultant/Assistant Manager with Edgewood Management Corp and Charles E. Smith Co, Washington, DC. He also worked in banking as a Branch Operations Specialist with Perpetual Bank Silver Spring, MD later acquired by Crestar Bank. He later moved to work in transportation with Amtrak where he retired in April 2023.

Babalola first met his future wife and sweetheart Elizabeth Oluyinka Akinrosotu in early 1968 as teenagers and neighbors on Clifford Street now known as Murtala Muhammed Way, Ebute Metta, Lagos. Babalola was fondly called "brother Lola" then they reconnected by chance at the NYSC office, Lagos in late 1982 and rekindled their acquaintance which evolved into romance. They got married on February 04, 1984 in Lagos, blessed with three lovely children, Akinbola, Olufemi and Anuoluwapo. Babalola was also blessed with two lovely grandchildren Immanuel aka Jr, Ifeoluwa and a beautiful daughter-in-law, Jennifer.

Babalola was very fond of his nephews and nieces and one of whom called him Uncle Babs. Big Guy.

Babalola had the blessing of making the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Israel in 2015 with the CAC Bethel Fellowship, Glenn Dale, Maryland. He was a member of the All Saints Anglican Church, Hyattsville, MD for several years and he was preparing to attend the Sunday service on August 11, 2024 when he suddenly passed to his rest in the Lord.

Babalola was a gentleman of the highest integrity and he inculcated this in his siblings from a very young age and can be attested by his surviving siblings, his children and often those he crossed paths with. He had a panache for the fine things of life with contentment. He loved and was loved by his family and extended family members and in-laws. His death came as a rude shock to all but in submission we give glory and adoration to the Most High God for the beautiful life he lived well. He will be sorely missed and will forever remain in our hearts.

May his exemplary and forthright life rest eternally until we meet again on Resurrection Day, Amen.

Babalola was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mrs. Olufunmilayo Phillips and Mr. Babatunde Apassa,
