Barbara June Peters

Barbara passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025. She was born on June 13, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late William Samual Shetzline and the late Ethel Gertrude McAfee. Barbara is proceeded in death by her husband of 68 years, Edward William Peters and son Thomas William Peters.

Barbara graduated from West Chester Teachers College and married Edward Peters (Bill) in October 1954. Their adventurous lives took off quickly with Bill’s first assignment as an Air Force officer in Germany. Barbara and Bill thrived on new experiences gained from travel.

Barbara put the travel bug on temporary hold while juggling parenting two boys (Thomas and Robert) and a teaching career. Barbara taught elementary school in Prince Georges County for over 25 years.

Barbara was always busy working on something. So many projects - Her hobbies included sewing, needlework, knitting, quilting, macramé, cooking, scrap booking, reading, and studying Native American history and culture. She didn’t skim the surface on any of these.

In addition to her many hobbies Barbara was active in volunteer work with the Native American Museum, local community, and Cactus League baseball (Tempe, Arizona).

Barbara’s true passion was travel; she and Bill were able to weave many trips into their busy lives. Barbara’s love of travel resulted in extensive domestic travel, as well as international travel to more than 50 countries. Each trip was well documented with photographs, scrapbooks and notes.

Barbara absolutely loved her grandchildren and spent as much time as possible with them. She exposed them to as many experiences as possible.

Barbara is survived by her sister Gloria Mae Ricci (Shetzline), son Robert Edward Peters of Chester, MD, grandchildren Timothy Edward Peters of Hagerstown, MD, Robert Thomas Peters of Upperco, MD and Kristin Elizabeth Lee of Gilbert, SC, as well her great grandchildren Wyatt, Macy, Sam, Oliver and Harper.
