It is with heartbreak and sadness to announce the passing of Carolyn Hagen, who left us peacefully on Sept 22, 2026 at the age of 87. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose love, strength, and kindness touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on March 1, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts as Beatrice Carolyn Hagen, she was a loving daughter to Joseph Howard and Lucy Lorraine Murphy. She rarely used the name Beatrice, we all know her by “Carolyn”.
Carolyn was a woman of grace, resilience, joy, and incredible strength for life. Whether she was spending the days with family, going out with friends, gardening, shopping, or playing with her sweet little pups Sophie and Penny, she made every moment count.
Carolyn is survived by her children, James Steven Talbott (Betsy), Karen Lynn Brandon (Russell), Darlene Roberta Hagen (Chuck); her grandchildren, Logan Talbott (Valerie), Rhys Talbott, Racheal Brandon, Cali Magee (DJ), Ryan Magee, Matthew Magee, Emily Magee, Braydon Magee; her great granddaughters, Maeve Talbott and Willow Talbott; her sibling, Mary Richards; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Julius Hagen, her brothers Joseph Murphy and John Murphy, and her sister, Eloise Woodham.
Arrangements are being made for Carolyn’s funeral later in October/early November and details will be shared once available. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bichon Frise Rescue in her memory, honoring her lifelong commitment to dog fostering and rescue. The Bichon Frise Rescue donation page is: https://www.bichonrescue.org/donate-today
While our hearts are heavy with her absence, we take comfort in the memories she leaves behind. She taught us the true meaning of love and strength that we will hold close to our heart.
