Betty Grivakis Rodgers, age 65, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on May 17, 1959, in Baltimore, MD, Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend, known for her kindness, sense of humor and love for her family. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Betty was the daughter of the late Ernest and Eleanor (née Andreadis) Grivakis, and sister to the late Dean Grivakis. She was the cherished mother of Christopher Barnard and Stephanie Tousey, (Elijah Branch) and a devoted grandmother to Christopher Jr., Gabriella, Juliana, Milan, and Malia.
She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Barnard, her beloved aunt, Mary G. Mallis, her nephew Tony Grivakis and niece Amanda Grivakis, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
After Betty graduated from Mt. Hebron High School in 1977, she earned an AA degree from Villa Julie College (now Stevenson University) in 1985. She built a diverse career, working as a paralegal, where she specialized in preparing documents for real estate transactions, in furniture sales, and in a retirement community. Betty was also a dedicated caretaker, bringing warmth and compassion to those she assisted.
Betty had a deep love for life and family, and found joy in traveling, spending time at the beach, listening to music, and attending concerts. Her great, and sometimes crazy, sense of humor and spirit endeared her to all who knew her.
She spent her early years in Ellicott City, MD, and later made her home in Raleigh, NC, with her daughter, Stephanie and her family, where she continued to be a source of strength and inspiration to those around her.
Betty’s life was marked by an enduring spirit, even in the face of illness. Her bravery and grace during her cancer battle were a reflection of the strength and resilience that defined her.
