Olubunmi Bola Ayodele-Ajibulu, known and loved by all as "Iya Ropo" (Ropo's mom), passed away on May 26, 2026. Born on May 7, 1958, Bunmi was a woman of grace, strength, deep faith, and extraordinary generosity; she was a steady and loving presence to all who knew her. She was not only a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, but truly a mother to many. Her life was defined by selflessness, as she was the kind of person who would give her very last penny to help someone in need. Iya Ropo leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and resilience that will continue to live on in the hearts of all she touched.
Bunmi was raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and was known from an early age for being bold, intelligent, and naturally nurturing. She grew up in a disciplined household that instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility, faith, and care for others - qualities that remained with her throughout her life. She attended St. David's Primary School and graduated from Aunty Ayo Girls' Comprehensive Secondary School. She later began her career at the Federal Ministry of Information in Lagos, where she met her husband, Joe Ajibulu.
Bunmi married Joe Ajibulu in 1982, and together they built a strong Christian home grounded in love, faith, and devotion. She was the heart of her family—hardworking, a relentless provider, and despite all of life's demands, someone who always made time to guide, support, and love her children unconditionally. She also found tremendous joy in her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. Beyond her own children and grandchildren, she was a mother and grandmother to many more, opening her heart to everyone she encountered.
Her life's work reflected her calling to care for others. As a registered nurse, Bunmi served with compassion, excellence, and unwavering dedication for more than two decades. She spent her final years serving with distinction at the Washington Center for Aging Services, where her kindness and commitment left a lasting impact on countless patients, families, and colleagues.
Above all, Bunmi was a woman of deep faith and an even greater heart. She did not simply speak about her faith; she lived it daily through service, love, and generosity. She was always reaching out to others, always asking how she could help, always opening her heart and hands to those around her. To know her was to be welcomed, encouraged, and loved.
Bunmi will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 44 years, Joe Abiodun Ajibulu; her children, Dr. Oluropo Olatunji (Deji Olatunji), Omowunmi Ajibulu, and Olukayode Ajibulu (Heather Ajibulu); her grandchildren, Ayomide Olatunji, Ayotobi Olatunji, and Yemi Ajibulu; her siblings, Olayinka Ayodele, Bamidele Ayodele, Mosun Osikoya, Toun Olowolehin, and their loving spouses; and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Moses Ayodele Ogunyingbo and Ibiyemi Ayodele, and her older sister, Iyabo Ayodele.
