In Loving Memory of Candace Ann Harshaw

June 17, 1944 – July 5, 2026

With profound love and gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Candace Ann Harshaw, who entered eternal rest on July 5, 2026, in Washington, DC at the age of 82 following complications from pneumonia.

Candace was born on June 17, 1944, in the Bronx, New York, to Creed B. Johnson and Marie P. White. From an early age, she possessed an independent spirit, a bright mind, and a determination that would guide her throughout her remarkable life.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Howard University, where she cultivated a lifelong appreciation for literature, learning, and thoughtful study. Candace went on to build an exceptional 44-year career in airline industry management, serving with distinction at Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) and Delta Airlines. She was admired by colleagues for her professionalism, ability to make things fun, inspiring work ethic, and leadership. She was an avid international traveler and experienced many great wonders of the world.

Above all, Candace was a woman of deep and abiding faith. A devoted Roman Catholic, she found strength, peace, and purpose in her relationship with God. She faithfully participated in the Legion of Mary and the Alliance of the Two Hearts (AHFI), living a life rooted in prayer, compassion, and service. Her faith was not simply something she practiced, it was the foundation upon which she built her life and the legacy she leaves behind.

To us, her daughters, she was so much more than her accomplishments. She was our greatest source of love, wisdom, encouragement, and strength. Her vibrant personality filled every room she entered. She loved deeply, gave generously, and remained steadfastly devoted to her family. Her resilience, care, and joyful spirit touched countless lives, and the lessons she taught us through her words and example will remain with us always.

Candace leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughters, Cheramie Julianne Jackson and Kasha Arianne Jordan; her beloved sons-in-law, Nathan Jackson and Torrance Jordan; and her seven treasured grandchildren: Creedence, Saxon, Snowdenn, Haven, Shawford, Caspaen, and Roman. Each of them brought immeasurable joy to her life, and she delighted in watching them grow while surrounding them with unwavering love and encouragement.

Though our hearts are broken, we are comforted by the assurance that she now rests peacefully in the loving presence of our Lord. Her legacy of faith, love, perseverance, and devotion will continue to live on through all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in celebration of Candace's life and to honor the extraordinary woman she was.

Our family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support extended during this difficult time. We ask that you continue to keep Candace in your prayers.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
