Carmie Wright Peavler, 89, passed away on May 19, 2026. Born on July 10, 1936, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, to Birl and Clora Wright, Carmie spent her early childhood in the mountains of eastern Kentucky before her family moved to Ohio. She grew up on a farm in Lafayette alongside her seven siblings—Cecil, Okie, Hobart, Wilkie, Emogene, Harold, and Arnold—forming bonds that shaped her lifelong love of family.
Carmie met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Peavler, on a Florida beach while vacationing with her childhood friend Dorothy. They married in 1956 and began a beautiful adventure together that spanned nearly 50 years. Their journey took them across four states, three children, countless memories, and a shared passion for travel that carried them to many countries and much of the United States.
Their life together began in Knoxville, Tennessee, where Bob studied under the GI Bill and Carmie worked in the Industrial Engineering Division at the University of Tennessee. After welcoming their first child, Brent, they moved to Florida, where Bob worked in the space program and Carmie served as a Steno A for Boeing. New opportunities led them to Texas—first Garland, then Richardson—where their daughter Carole was born. When Bob accepted a position with NASA Goddard, the family moved to Maryland, bringing with them the architectural plans of a Texas rancher and building their lifelong home in Sherwood Manor in Bowie. There, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Patricia.
Throughout every move and season of life, Carmie supported Bob’s engineering career while building her own path, eventually becoming a celebrated real estate agent known for her integrity, intuition, and genuine care for others.
In Maryland, Carmie earned her real estate license and quickly became known as a gifted and highly successful agent. She was honored year after year as a member of the Lifetime Distinguished Sales Club of Anne Arundel County—a testament not only to her professional excellence, but also to her remarkable ability to connect with people. Carmie had a rare gift for making others feel valued, welcomed, and deeply cared for. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity touched everyone she met.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carmie treasured time with her family above all else. She was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Bowie, where she found community, purpose, and deep friendships.
Carmie is survived by her son, Brent Peavler, and his wife, Ann; her daughter, Patricia Somervell, and her husband, Will; her grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Peavler, Sarah Ferguson and Rachael (Ferguson) Gselassie, Jake and Luke Somervell; and her great-grandchildren, Ryann (Ferguson) Crumbling, Robert, Colt, and Liberty Peavler, and Zara Ferguson Gselassie. She is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Peavler, and her daughter, Carole Ferguson.
