Carole Weis

Carole Joyce Weis (née Mitchell), age 82, passed away on July 22, 2026.

Born on May 9, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, Carole entered the world during World War II while her father, George Mitchell, was serving overseas. During that time, her mother, Helen Mitchell, moved in with her parents, surrounding Carole with the love and support of her extended family from the very beginning.

Carole was the oldest sister to brother George (Debbie) and sister Joan (David). Beyond her immediate family, she was also the cherished “little sister” of the large and close-knit Rybczynski family, surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, and cousins who were an important part of her life.

Carole attended Shrine of the Little Flower School in Baltimore before continuing her education at The Catholic High School of Baltimore. There, she proudly played on the basketball team that captured a championship and often fondly recalled the celebratory dinner their coach treated the team to after their victory. Following school, she served as an administrative assistant, working at BWI Airport and later at Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood campus. She was primarily a homemaker.

Carole married Raymond Sank on July 3, 1963, and together they raised two daughters, Sharon Cartwright (Gary) and Trish Lomonosov. Following Raymond’s death, Carole found love again and married Fred Weis on September 16, 1995. Together they shared 27 happy years filled with faith, family, and travel. Through her marriage to Fred, Carole was also blessed with a stepson, Tom Weis (Jennine), and stepdaughter, Susan Stout (Kerry). Fred’s brothers and their wives welcomed Carole with open arms when she joined the family.

Carole loved bringing people together. Her home was always open to family and friends, especially during Maryland summers spent eating steamed crabs, laughing around the pool, and making memories that many treasure. She loved Maryland traditions, and few things made her happier than sharing a meal around a table full of the people she loved. Her daughters were raised to love nature and the outdoors from their mom.

An avid gardener with a green thumb, Carole took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She found peace and happiness tending them and could identify nearly every flower she encountered, a knowledge she retained until the very end of her life.

She also embraced travel. Among her favorite memories were visiting Ireland, traveling to Rome with the Our Lady of Sorrows choir to sing for Pope Saint John Paul II, and taking an unforgettable family cruise to Alaska. She and Fred generously treated the entire family to that Alaskan adventure, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Throughout the years, Carole was an active member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal, Holy Rosary, Our Lady of Sorrows, and Our Lady of the Fields Catholic parishes. She was an enthusiastic choir member for many years in her local church.

Carole was an avid Baltimore football fan whose greatest sports heartbreak came when the Colts left Baltimore under the cover of darkness, while her greatest joy was celebrating the Ravens' two Super Bowl championships.

Carole is survived by her daughters, Sharon Cartwright (Gary) and Trish Lomonosov; her stepchildren, Tom Weis (Jennine) and Susan Stout (Kerry); her sister, Joan (David); her grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Jason, Evan, Daniel, Olivia, Nathan, Natalie, Benjamin, and Lily; and many beloved nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

In her later years, Carole was rarely without her beloved dog, Tootsie, whose loyal companionship brought her comfort until the very end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Mitchell; her first husband, Raymond Sank; her second husband, Fred Weis; and her brother, George Mitchell.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Carole’s life. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church in Millersville. Interment and a luncheon at Our Lady of the Fields will take place immediately afterward.
