It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Cecile Martin, 82 who passed away at her residence in Old Bowie on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025.
Cecile aka Ceil, Sissy, Mom, Grandma Ceil, Nanny, Nanny Ceil and Grandma Boing was born in Washington DC and grew up in Bowie, spending most of her younger years on her grandparent’s chicken farm candling eggs and playing with her many cousins. She graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1961. In 1967 she married Raymond Martin and raised 4 children. She worked for over 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk at the main branch in Bowie, Old Bowie and Mitchellville, receiving many commendations. She, for most of her tenure was the resident Santa Claus for the local post offices by responding with handwritten letters to all children who sent letters to the North Pole at Christmastime. After retirement she spent time as a teacher’s aide at Rockledge Elementary. She was for many years a member of the Bowie United Methodist Church.
Ceil was passionate about reading and spending time with family. She loved eating crabs, Barnes & Noble, Krispy Kreme and Starbucks, day trips to O.C. for Thrasher’s fries and Candy Kitchen fudge.
She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Martin, mother Cecile Beall, father Francis Clark and son Raymond Martin Jr.
She is survived, loved and greatly missed by her daughters Brenda Seger (Will), Cynthia Link (Brian) and Ginny Hayden (Roy), her grandchildren Kristen, Ray, Karen, Brandon, Jonathon, Tyler and Brandy, great grandchildren Kylie, Ava, Bella, Miyah, Finley, Emmie, Journey and granddogs Burt and “Misquito”.
