Celebrating the Life of Charlie Waltower

Charlie Lee Waltower was born on November 16,1947 to his loving mother, Bessie Mae Waltower Jones. As a single mother, Bessie Mae was blessed with the love and support of her father, Booker T. Waltower, and his wife, Beulah Waltower, who lovingly helped raise Charlie in Waynesboro, Georgia. Together, they provided him with a stable home, strong values, and a deep appreciation for family. Surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and a close-knit extended family, Charlie developed a connection to his Waltower heritage that remained with him throughout his life.

Charlie graduated from Waynesboro Industrial High School before moving to Washington, D.C., to join his mother and begin the next chapter of his life. There, he built a career as a truck driver, earning an honest living while embracing the independence of life on the road.

When he wasn't working, Charlie enjoyed restoring old cars and reminiscing about the past. He was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed cheering for the Dallas Cowboys since their inception and watching Nationals and Orioles baseball games. He was a talker by nature and loved sharing stories about Waynesboro, family members, and the experiences that shaped his life. If you spent time with Charlie, chances were you would hear stories that kept family history alive. He especially enjoyed talking about his granddaughters, Melanie and Ariane, whose lives brought him great pride. He treasured the relationships he shared with his cousins, whom he loved more like siblings, and appreciated every opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and reflect on the family's rich history.

Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Bessie Mae Waltower Jones; his grandparents, Booker T. Waltower and Beulah Waltower; his devoted friend and life companion, Marcia; and his beloved aunts and uncles, Ben Waltower, Charlie Waltower (his namesake), Thomas Jack Waltower, Ella Mae Waltower, and Lillie Waltower (Shannon).

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Torrin King; his daughter-in-law, Ashley King; his cherished granddaughters, Melanie King and Ariane King; his loving cousins; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Charlie’ life was a testament to the importance of family, the value of knowing where you come from, and the memories that connect one generation to the next. Though Charlie's earthly journey has ended, the stories he shared, the family history he preserved, and the roots that shaped his life will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.
