Greenbelt

March 2, 1961 — March 16, 2026Christopher Raymond Dwyer, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend to many, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home on March 16, 2026, at the age of 65. His journey began on March 2, 1961, in the welcoming embrace of Greenbelt, Maryland, where he was born to Shirley Lorraine Dwyer (Brown) and Thomas Rice Dwyer, Sr. He was the youngest of four.

Chris leaves behind a family who loved him deeply: his siblings, Thomas Rice Dwyer, Jr., Mary Patricia Johnson, and Diane Alison Terrett, along with his niece, nephews, and extended family who adored their Uncle Chris. He was a loving son who loved his parents deeply and losing them was extremely hard on him. He spoke about their memory daily. Pictures of his parents, family members, friends and love of music flood the walls of his home. Cherished knick-knacks from his childhood home sit proudly on a shelf in his living room. He loved his family heritage.

For nearly two decades, Chris dedicated his professional life to the US Department of Agriculture, where he worked with a passion for the outdoors, nature, and wildlife since January 2007. He was eagerly anticipating his retirement this November, a milestone he was excited to celebrate as he planned the next chapter of his life.

Chris was a stalwart member of the AA Recovery Community, marking 34 years of sobriety—a testament to his strength, perseverance, and the support he offered to countless others. His involvement with the local Greenbelt Step Club was a source of pride and fulfillment, where he found a second family and a mission that he embraced wholeheartedly.

His love for nature was abundant. He loved skiing and remembers it fondly. He loved the water and his boat and being active and outdoors. An avid fisherman, Chris found peace on the water, casting his line into the serene depths, reflecting on life and sitting in the quiet moments.

He was a man whose strength didn’t come from being untouched by life, but from surviving it. There was a quiet heaviness in his eyes, the kind that only appears after you’ve carried more than your share of storms. Yet beneath that weight lived a gentleness he didn’t show easily, a softness he protected. To his niece and nephews and many great nieces and nephews in his life, Chris was nothing short of a loving and fun uncle. He delighted in spoiling them, seeing their eyes light up with each gift or card. He will be deeply missed.

A service honoring Chris's life will be held at Beall Funeral Home, Friday March 27, 2026, from 6-8pm, located at 6512 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD 20715. As we gather to celebrate his life, we remember a man whose perseverance, compassion, dedication, and love left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Chris's legacy is one of warmth and resilience, and his memory will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind.
