DAN JOSEPH BERNER April 22,1961 to September 24, 2026
Dan Joseph Berner, affectionately known as “Danny,” went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2026, after a brief illness. Danny was born on April 22,1961 to the Late Claire Walls Berner and the Late John Joseph Berner in Clarksville, Tennessee.
As the son of a military family, Danny, along with his two sisters and two brothers lived in the cities of Hanau and Frankfurt in Germany until late 1974.
After his family relocated back to the United States in 1975, they settled in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, where Danny attended Largo High School, graduating in 1979. During his years at Largo Danny was a top-rated wrestler; always pinning down every opponent in record time. His reputation throughout Prince Georges County, Maryland as a wrestler preceded him, and opposing teams always knew in advance that Danny would be their biggest challenge! Danny was such a talented wrestler that he ranked third in the entire state of Maryland.
After he graduated high school Danny took college courses and worked on various jobs. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1985. During his tour of duty Danny was assigned to the naval vessel USS Proteus (AS-19) which was stationed in Guam. After completing his Naval tour of duty in 1988 he returned home and purchased a condominium in Crofton, Maryland and set up his own delivery business with RPS, which he ran for many years. After selling RPS, Danny then went to work for Schwann’s as a food merchandiser and driver.
After leaving Schwann’s, Danny then joined Coastal Sunbelt Produce Company as a Driver, where he worked for over 16 years, retiring in November 2025.
Everyone who knew Danny knew him as loving, easygoing, and full of fun. He was loyal beyond measure, and if you were his genuine friend or his family, there was nothing in the world he would not do for you, including helping you fight your battles – physical or otherwise! Once you became Danny’s friend, you were his friend for life; he always stayed connected with you whether you lived across the street or across the country. He possessed a natural sense of humor that was contagious; he was hilarious without trying. There was not one pretentious bone in Danny’s body. He was indeed loved by so many.
Danny loved to ski, to play golf, and he absolutely loved the beach and going on fishing trips. He also loved to scuba dive. Danny always excitedly looked forward to his family’s yearly trip to Ocean City, Maryland, where the entire family would stay for a week in a big 6-bedroom vacation unit on 6th Street, overlooking the Boardwalk. He always looked forward to this yearly vacation with his family because family meant everything to Danny. Danny genuinely loved his family! And we all loved Danny. He will be terribly missed.
Danny was preceded in death by his Father, John Joseph Berner; his Mother, Claire Walls Berner; and his Sister, Jeanie Berner Miller. He leaves to mourn his life partner, Kathy Anderson; his son, Dan Andrew Berner; his brother, Kevin Berner; his sister, Debra Berner Waugh; his youngest brother, James Berner; and a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
