David Lee Goode of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was born January 30, 1947, to Roy L. Goode and Fern Simpson Goode.

Dave attended Utica Pike Elementary and Jeffersonville High School, where he lettered in football for four years and was a member of the glee club. A standout on the field, he was recognized as an outstanding defensive football player and was named a Hoosier Boys State nominee. He also served as class vice president his senior year. He went on to attend Purdue University in Indiana, where he majored in economics.

After graduation, Dave moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he lived with his brother Bill and worked for the city as assistant finance director. It was in Fort Lauderdale that he met his wife, Carol Staab, an elementary school teacher and the daughter of Al Staab and Clara Glotzbach Staab. The couple married on December 28, 1970, in Topeka, Kansas, Carol’s birthplace, and remained in Fort Lauderdale for five years.

Dave was then recruited by Prince George’s County, Maryland, to run the county’s renowned computer system. He served as assistant finance director and, five years later, as deputy County Council Director, eventually becoming County Council Administrator. He and Carol raised their two children, Darren and Denise, in Bowie, Maryland, before purchasing a home on the Potomac River, where they delighted in boating and life by the water.

Beyond his career, Dave gave generously of his time in service to his community. He served as finance director on the Dimensions Hospital board and was a member of the Maryland Park and Planning board and the WSSC board.

Dave was a man who could build or fix just about anything. He remodeled the family’s Bowie home, finished the interior of their river house, and built furniture with his own hands.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Darren, and Darren’s wife, Kim, of Marlton, New Jersey, along with their children, Alex—now studying civil engineering at Lehigh University—and Amanda, a high school senior; and his daughter, Denise, and her spouse, Noel, of Evanston, Illinois, along with their children, Fern Cunningham Goode, beginning middle school, and Arlo Cunningham Goode, a fourth grader

What a great guy. He will be deeply missed.
