David William Jones

December 18, 1956 — August 28, 2025

Washington, DC

David William Jones, born on December 18, 1956, in Washington, DC, passed away suddenly on August 28, 2025. He was a beloved figure who personalized the life of everyone he encountered, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of kindness.

David spent his early years in Washington, DC, before moving with his family to Berryville, Virginia, in the early 1960s. During his childhood, he participated in little league baseball and was an active member of both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, laying the foundation for a life full of adventure and community involvement. After graduating from high school in 1976, David pursued his passion for helping others by enrolling at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where he earned a degree in Social Work.

In the mid-1980s, David relocated to Bowie, Maryland, where he began to cultivate his own family. David was an avid sports enthusiast, with a deep loyalty to his favorite teams; he roots for the Cleveland Browns and later, the Baltimore Ravens in football, and enjoyed watching the LA Dodgers in baseball. Every year, he made the pilgrimage to Philadelphia to catch his beloved Dodgers in action against the Phillies. In addition to team sports, David took up tennis later in life, sharing laughter and camaraderie at the local pool, BBT, and eagerly viewing major tournaments whenever they aired on television or took place in DC during the summer.

Professionally, David led a fulfilling career. He worked as a realtor for many years and also spent time as a courier in Washington, DC. His true calling came when he served as a court reporter for 17 years at a private firm, a position that allowed him to travel across the country and engage with diverse experiences.

David reveled in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished spending time outdoors, basking in the warmth of the sun while going for walks. A natural conversationalist, he never met a stranger, relishing the opportunity to connect with others. His love for crossword puzzles accompanied moments of leisure, often completed with a steaming cup of coffee in hand. David was also an avid reader, and he often indulged in playing his lucky numbers in the lottery.

He is survived by his former wife, Mary Jones, and their two children, Elliot Jones and Hannah Bohlman (Josh), who held a special place in his heart, along with his three grandchildren: Charlie Jones, River Jones, and Sullivan Jones. David’s legacy also continues through his brother, Mike Jones (Anne), and several close cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ruth Jones, and his younger brother, Johnny Jones, affectionately known as Spider. The love he had for his family, especially his children and grandchildren, defined so much of his life, and they will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.

A visitation and funeral service will be held on September 12, 2025, at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland. The visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM.

David William Jones was a man who lived fully and loved deeply. His laughter, stories, and unwavering compassion for others will resonate with everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
