Delores C. Jones

Delores C. Jones, 90, of Lanham, Maryland, passed peacefully on September 24, 2026.

Born on March 18, 1936, in Washington, D.C., Delores was the daughter of Ronetta Swann and her adoptive father, Calvin Crosson. She graduated from Spingarn High School, attended D.C. Teachers College, and later earned a master’s degree in education from The George Washington University.

Delores devoted more than 30 years to educating elementary school children. A lifelong learner herself, she remained deeply curious about the world around her and was known for her intelligence, resourcefulness, generosity, strong opinions, and willingness to speak up for others.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Eugene Anthony Jones. She leaves a loving family that includes her sons, Quentin Xavier Jones, his wife, Lauren, and Phillip Anthony Jones, his wife, Nina; her seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Delores was a longtime member of Hughes Memorial United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. Her Christian faith remained a guiding force throughout her life. Her favorite hymn, “We’ve Come This Far by Faith,” beautifully reflected the perseverance and trust in God that carried her through 90 remarkable years.

Celebration of Life

A private Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Delores’s beloved family beach property in Chaptico, Maryland.
