Dina-Athena Siganos

Dina-Athena Siganos, 59, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, reposed in the Lord on Friday, August 21, 2026. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she spent much of her life before moving to Florida in 2010.

Dina-Athena was the beloved daughter of the late John Kostandinos Siganos and Angeleke Stella Demos and sister of the late Kostandinos Siganos. Raised in a close-knit Greek family, she remained deeply proud of her Greek heritage, Orthodox faith, and family traditions throughout her life.

Dina-Athena was also the devoted widow of the late Dimitrios Lambros Vakiaros, the love of her life. Their love and the life they shared together remained an enduring part of her heart throughout the years. His memory was forever cherished, and the love they shared continued to hold a special place in her life.

Education was both a passion and a calling for Dina-Athena. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Goucher College and her Master of Arts from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and devoted her professional life to higher education. She ultimately served as Vice President of the Tampa Campus of Everglades University, where she was known as a dedicated leader, mentor, and advocate for her students. She believed strongly in the power of education to change lives and took great pride in helping others recognize their potential and achieve their goals.

Prior to her move to Tampa, her love of teaching extended to the children of Greek school at the Cathedral of the Annunciation, where she proudly shared the language, culture, traditions, and heritage that meant so much to her. Whether guiding a university student or teaching one of her beloved Greek school kiddos, Dina gave each of them the same encouragement, dedication, and heart.

Those who knew Dina-Athena will remember her for her strength, determination, intelligence, generosity, and unmistakable personality. She was fiercely loyal to those she loved and possessed an extraordinary ability to encourage, challenge, and inspire the people around her. Over the course of her career and life, many students, colleagues, and friends came to regard her not only as a leader and mentor, but as family.

Above all else, Dina-Athena's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her only daughter, Angeleke Vakiaros. The two shared an exceptionally close bond as mother and daughter, best friends, confidantes, and constant Disney companions. Her love and pride for Angeleke were immeasurable, and family remained at the center of everything she did.

Dina-Athena was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dimitrios Lambros Vakiaros; her parents, John and Angeleke Siganos; and her brother, Kostandinos. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Angeleke, as well as extended family, lifelong friends, colleagues, students, and the many people whose lives she touched.

Dina-Athena leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, strength, perseverance, education, faith, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed, but the lessons she taught, the lives she changed, and the love she gave so freely will continue through all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, in Baltimore, MD in Dina’s memory. She was loved beyond words, will be missed beyond measure, and will never be forgotten.
