Dirk Emerson Faas, 71, of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and two daughters on February 8, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10am at Melwood Church of the Nazarene (6906 Woodyard Rd, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772), followed by the funeral service at 11am on February 18, 2026.
Born in Central Lake, Michigan on March 3, 1954, Dirk graduated from Michigan Tech University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and then married his beautiful wife on June 17, 1978. He spent the next 47 years dedicated to his wife, family, and work. He is survived by his wife Kathy, four children - Brad, Jen (Jimmy), Amy (Kyle), and Dan, - and siblings Scott (Marie-Reine), Darcy (Kevin), and Jan (Tim).
He is most remembered for his hard work and dedication. From the company where he worked for over 40 years, to his 47+years of marriage, he was deeply committed to the people in his life. He generously gave of his time and talents by volunteering at his church on weekends, spending evenings fixing computers for family and friends, and patiently teaching his children both the practical skills of how to fix a car or hang a shelf and the character traits of hard work, loyalty, and simple-hearted kindness. He asked nothing for himself, avoided any kind of spotlight, but took intense pride in any accomplishment of his children, found immense joy in the simple things of life – watching the birds at the feeder or a cookout with family – and left a legacy of love and fond memories behind that will be cherished by his family and friends for many years to come.
