Doris Marie Browning ,89, of Lanham, Maryland peacefully transitioned from this life on Sunday, June 7th, 2026. She was born on August 21st, 1936, the daughter of Mildred and Bernard Mills, Sr.
Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years James Browning; her brothers: Donald, Bobby, Leonard, Jay and Ray Mills; her sisters: Betty Bolden, Kay Whittaker, Wanda Cameron and Janet Walker and great granddaughter, Samantha Lee.
Those left to cherish Doris’s memory are her six children: Drema Redding(Bill), Barbara Brune (Jim), James Browning, Jr., Betty Browning, Anita Colombo (Pete) and Tina Browning-Eardley (David); 10 grandchildren: Gregory, Sabrina, Jean, Darlene, James III, Dale (Richie), Donavan, Nicole, Donald and Robert (Bobby); 7 great grandchildren: Abigail, Maniah, Jayla, Emma, Alexa, Mason and Larkin; and Siblings: Bernard Mills, Jr., Julia Whittaker, and Retha Moore.
Doris’s career consisted of 16 years as an Executive Housekeeper at two major hotel chains, and 13 years in Facility Maintenance at the University of Maryland, before retiring in 2001.
Doris’s faith and love for Jesus Christ was her guiding light throughout her life. Growing up, she attended the Pentecostal Church in Twin Branch, WV, where she often sang with her sisters. At home, she and her husband loved to sing while he played guitar. Doris wrote a song titled "There’s No Doubt About It" explaining her walk with the Lord. She always said, “I didn’t write the song, God gave it to me just like that”.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie, Maryland on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
