Dorothea M. Clay

October 22, 1937 — January 26, 2023

Crofton

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, our so loved mother and grandmother, Dorothea “Dodee” Moraites Clay, of Gambrills, died peacefully. Born on October 22, 1937 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to Stavros and Mary Moraites, she grew up with 2 much older siblings, and was always doted on by family and customers at her father‘s restaurant.

She graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School and soon after, moved to Maryland and began her 45 year career in the Federal Government, first at the Department of Labor and then retiring from the Department of the Treasury. She retired in 2003 and quickly went back to work first in retail and then as a volunteer at BWI Airport. She then took a job as office manager of Saint George’s Episcopal Church in Glenn Dale and loved her time working there. In 2010, she retired again to care for her first grandchild. What joy she found in being a grandmother!

Dodee is survived by her daughter, Robin Clay, grandchildren, Ava and Charlie Campbell, as well as a beloved niece, Dianna (Michael) Rickabaugh and dear friends.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11am, Friday, February 3 at Beall Funeral Home 6512 NW Crain Hwy., Bowie with funeral service following at 11am. Interment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, act.alz.org.
