Edward Lee Hoyle passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Crofton in Crofton, Maryland at the age of 79. Edward was born on April 30, 1947, to the late Charles Edward Hoyle and Alee Brown.
Edward was a member and Deacon of the Refreshing Spring Church of God in Christ.
Edward attended the Payne Elementary School and graduated from the Dunbar High School in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1967.
After graduation, Edward joined the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he began his career as an Air Conditioning Technician. He attended classes at the Lackland Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas and McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. After leaving the Air Force, he continued to take courses to maintain his proficiency and remain up to date with changes in the air conditioning field.
He then worked for Academy Heating and Air Conditioning. Mr. M. D. Jolles, Vice-President said that he "performed his trade with the understanding of a scientist, the experience of a seasoned master, and the skill of an artist." "Our company received more referrals, recommendations, and letters of commendation due to Eddie's performance than any other employee bestowed upon us."
Before he retired in 1998, he was a teacher at the VO-Tech Center for the Charles County Public School System in LaPlata, Maryland. He also taught at Lincoln Technical Institute. The president of Lincoln Tech was so impressed with his teaching and the HVAC Training Devices he had built to use in his class, that he created The President's Award in honor of him. He was the first recipient of The Lincoln Technical Institute President's Award. He taught at the Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. He also worked for a former student and good friend, Michael T. Young, at Michael T. Young Heating and Air Conditioning Company. He helped to maintain the air conditioning system at Refreshing Spring COGIC.
Edward loved what he did; and used his talents, in his spare time, to help others. He was a teacher at heart; so, it gave him great pleasure to share his knowledge with budding young air condition technicians and anyone else who asked or needed his help. He especially enjoyed assisting members at Refreshing Spring with their HVAC needs.
On September 21, 1974, he married the love of his life, Linda Paullette Adams. To that union were born two sons and one daughter.
Edward loved to travel. He took his family on multiple trips to his and his wife's hometowns. An especially cherished time with many fond memories was when he and his family traveled across the country. He enjoyed taking pictures and was a very good photographer; so much so that from time-to-time family members asked him to take pictures on special occasions. Not only was he a teacher, but Edward was also a life-long student himself–He enjoyed learning about and working with new technologies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Hoyle; and his son, Edward Lee Hoyle, Jr.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Linda; one daughter, Aileen; one son, Michael; one sister, Judy (Henry) Lee; five sisters-in-law Anita Young, Mary Lewis, Wanda (Donald) Adams, Gwendolyn Adams, and Sherrie Hairston; three brothers-in-law, Henry Lee, Ronald Adams, and Donald Adams; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
