Dike Iherigbononu Christopher Nmezi, 78, of Owerre-Nkwoji, Nkwerre LGA in Imo State, Nigeria, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Born on December 25, 1946, in Owerre-Nkwoji, Dike was the youngest of seven children born to his mother and the eighth child of his father. From an early age, he radiated warmth, confidence, and charisma. His laughter drew people in and his opinions - especially on Nigerian and American politics - were voiced with his deepest convictions. His unforgettable presence was felt the moment he walked into a room.

Dike began his early education at St. Peter’s School, Obegu, in the Aba/Ngwa area of Abia State. He later completed his primary studies in Asaba, earning his Standard Six certificate in 1959. An exceptionally bright student, he pursued secondary education at King’s College Lagos in 1964, where he earned the West African School Certificate (WASC).

In the 1960s, he continued his higher school education with studies at Hussey College, Warri and Baptist High School, Port Harcourt. He later completed his post-secondary higher school program at St. Augustine’s Grammar School in Nkwerre, finishing in 1971. These formative years showcased both his academic excellence and his resilience amid the political and social transitions of Nigeria.

In the mid-1970s, Dike immigrated to the United States in pursuit of higher education and expanded opportunities. He achieved academic distinction at Howard University, earning a B.Sc. in Pharmacy in 1981. He went on to receive a Master of Science in Public Health Administration from Southeastern University and, driven by intellectual curiosity and discipline, completed his Ph.D. in Biochemical Nutrition at Howard University in 1997.

During his early years in Washington, D.C., Dike met the love of his life, Chika, over Thanksgiving weekend in the mid-1970s. Their bond was immediate and enduring. They married on December 19, 1979, beginning a partnership defined by love, ambition, teamwork, and joy.

Together, they built a beautiful life—balancing demanding academic pursuits with a vibrant social and cultural presence in the Nigerian community. They attended concerts, danced at spirited D.C. disco clubs, hosted family and friends, took unforgettable road trips, and maintained deep ties to Nigerian cultural groups. Their home was filled with friendship, laughter, and endless parties! They were blessed with three children: Obiageri, Uzoma, and Ngozi.

A pharmacist by training and an entrepreneur at heart, Dike dedicated his career to serving communities across the United States while fostering meaningful business connections between the U.S. and Nigeria. His entrepreneurial spirit, strategic thinking, and drive for excellence shaped his professional path.

His annual trips home to Nigeria were sacred—times of renewal, connection, and cultural pride. A passionate lover of Igbo culture, he collected artwork, sculptures, and traditional pieces that adorned his homes and reflected his heritage. Known for his impeccable style, he enjoyed good fashion, good music, and especially good cologne—his fragrance collection was widely admired.

Dike was predeceased by his siblings: Joshua Onyenemekaoha, Vincent Onyekpandu, Dennis Nwakanma, Ezekiel Emenike, and Josephine Nwaucheoha Amadi (née Nmezi).

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lolo Chika Nmezi, PharmD; his children Obiageri, Uzoma, and Ngozi; his son-in-law John Paul; and his granddaughters Olivia Udochi and Sophia Amarachi.

He is also survived by his sisters Edna Anyalewe Okoroma (née Nmezi) and Nelly Ukananwa Nmezi, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, godchildren, and extended family across Nigeria, United States, and other countries.
