Eugene Arthur Marx, age 91, of Edgewater, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Born on September 25,1934 in Baltimore, MD, he is lovingly survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; their children, John (Cynthia), Eugene (Michele) and Erin (Gina); and five grandchildren – Matthew (Jillian), Madeline, Olivia, Gemma and Brennan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Constance and Eugene H. Marx, and his brothers Francis David Marx, Edward Ignacious Marx and James Walter Marx.
Gene lived a long and meaningful life filled with devotion to family, friendship, and the simple joys that brought happiness every day. He was employed at C&P Telephone Company (Verizon) as a cable splicer for 37 years. Along with his wife Mary, they raised a wonderful family in western Howard County, coached little league and enjoyed his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. Gene was an avid fisherman who could often be found by the water before sunrise, enjoying the quiet peace of his favorite fishing spot at the Naval Academy or Thomas Point. Whether casting a line alone or sharing stories with friends and family, fishing was one of Gene’s greatest pleasures. He had four boats over his lifetime and caught many large fish over the years. He taught each child and grandchild to fish and was most excited when one of them caught the first fish, rather than himself.
As a lifelong sports fan, Gene rarely missed an Orioles baseball game. He enjoyed discussing plays and players, and gathering with family to watch the games together, with some crabs and beer. Sports were more than entertainment — they were a way to connect with the people he loved, including a family trip to the Cooperstown Hall of Fame for the induction of Cal Ripken and several trips with family to Notre Dame and root for the Irish!
Above all, Gene will be remembered for his kindness, humor, steady presence, and love for family. He leaves behind cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew him. Gene will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, Annapolis, MD at a later date.
