Fern L. Martin

Fern L. Martin, of Bowie, MD, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at age 99.

Born on December 3, 1926, in Manvel, ND, to William and Blanche Zimmer.

After graduating from high school in Lakota, ND, she married Air Force Sergeant Irwan A. Johnson on June 13, 1946. For the next fifteen years they were stationed on various SAC bases in the U.S., as well as overseas. Fern enjoyed military life, moving to new places, exploring new cultures, and making a home wherever they were.

On May 4, 1974, she married Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Robert C. Martin (Marty). After retiring from the 89th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Andrews, they settled in Temple Hills, MD.

Fern had many adventures and enjoyed meeting people. She was vivacious, outgoing, and loved parties celebrating milestones in her life as well as spending the holidays with family. She loved her family, Maryland crabs, and the casino, in that order. She was convinced she would win the lottery and make us all wealthy.

Fern is survived by her brother, Paul Zimmer (Claudia) of San Diego, CA;

four children, Linda Kamp (Brad) of Orlando, FL, Jerry Johnson (Karen) of Crofton, MD, Kathy Siemer (Paul) of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Tina Huff (Jim) of Lusby, MD; six grandchildren, Morgan, Erik, Ashley, Tyler, Dan, and Jenn; and four great-grandchildren: Kylie, Beckett, Nathan, and Barron.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Beall Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF).
