George Douglas Baptist Jr. of Bowie, Maryland, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the age of 68.  George transitioned peacefully with his beloved wife Susan and their children by his side.
George was born in Newburgh, New York on March 3, 1953, to parents George Douglas Baptist Sr. and Thelma Baptist. One of four children, George was a jokester and the life of the party. He attended the State University of New York at New Paltz upon graduating high school.  Always a free spirit, his desire to make it on his own and see more of the world, led him to enlist in the Army in April 1976 at the age of 23. George was stationed at many duty locations throughout his military career, but he held a lifelong fondness for the many memories and adventures with dear friends and his love Susan while in Fuerth and Nuremberg, Germany. George also became a chapter member of the M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F. & A. M. while stationed overseas.
George and Susan moved back to the United States and settled in Prince George's County, Maryland in 1986.  They soon welcomed their first son and namesake George, with son Joshua arriving eleven years later to complete their family. They have called Bowie, Maryland home for more than twenty years. George was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden. He is also a proud graduate of Walden University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Over the years, George held several occupations within customer service and academic account support services. He was well liked by colleagues and friends and continued to keep in touch with his military buddies.
George will be remembered most for the love he had for his family. He was married to wife Susan for 38 years.  He was a proud father to his boys and found complete joy in being the "Papa" of his grandchildren Ava and Noah. He loved the Lord and knew he would one day go home to be with him in heavenly peace.
George was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters Margaret Hill and Jackie Caruther. He is survived by his wife Susan Ann Baptist; brother Jerome Baptist; sisters Yolanda Baptist and Lynette Gaskins; children George Douglas Baptist III and Joshua James Baptist; daughter in-law Tamara Baptist; grandchildren Ava Baptist and Noah Baptist. He is the beloved uncle, cousin and brother to countless family members.
