George Shahady Khoury, 95, of Ellicott City, MD, passed away on April 29th, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Tiberius, Palestine, George was the beloved child of Shahady and Fadwa Khoury, the beloved brother of Dr. Assad, and his sisters Jamila and Laurice, the beloved husband of Hiam Elias Rebeiz, the beloved father of Rabih, Samar, Ziad, and Sahar, and beloved father-in-law of Melissa, Paulette, and Tom.
George lived a life marked by kindness, dedication to loved ones, humor, faith, and generosity. A graduate of Virginia Tech University with advanced degrees from Baylor University, he worked as a biochemist for the United Nations (UNRWA), and when he moved to the United States, he spent many years as a biochemist at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, where he was known for his commitment and hard work. Beyond his work, he found joy in music (playing the violin and piano), hiking, socializing, and cherished time spent with family and friends.
George is survived by his children Rabih, Samar, Ziad and Sahar and his grandchildren Leila, Nadia, Jenna, Aya, Lamees, Zein, Chelsea, Isabella, Elizabeth, Ridgely, and Luke, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. They are preceded in death by his loving wife Hiam, his brother Dr. Assad, and his two sisters Jamila and Laurice.
Those who knew George will remember his kind heart, his humor, his love of his grandchildren, his dedication to his wife Hiam, his generosity and sense of humor, as well as his love of his birthplace, Palestine. His presence brought warmth to every room, and his legacy will continue through the lives he touched.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday May 3rd at 3 pm at St Mary's Antiochian Greek Orthodox Church in Cockeysville, MD. Interment will follow at St Mary's.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped give care to George to include the medical staff at Howard County General Hospital and at Gilchrist hospice for their support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Mary Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, Hunt Valley, MD in George's honor.
