George Ratté was called home on July 3, 2025. He was born on September 25, 1944, in Washington, D.C. to George P. and Opel Walsvig Ratté. He grew up in Mount Rainier, Maryland along with his siblings, Kenneth, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Kathleen and Teresa. It was in Mount Rainier that he met and married his true love, Catherine Lavezzo. They were married 56 years and raised their family in Bowie, MD.
During his 80 years, George served three years in the U.S. Air Force, followed by a distinguished 42-year career in federal public service working for the Departments of Agriculture and Treasury in the field of computer science.
George always savored time with family and friends- he loved vacations, exploring the Bay, and time in Ocean City. Traveling, boating, camping, golfing and playing pool were among his favorite hobbies. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus, Habitat for Humanity, various pool leagues, and rebuilding homes after Hurricane Katrina. George was a generous, kind, and loving role model for all who were blessed to know him.
George was predeceased by his father, George Sr., his mother, Opel, his brother Kenneth, his brother-in-law, Ned Burford, and his in-laws, Paul and Catherine Lavezzo.
George will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Catherine; his children, Lisa (Dan), David (Vera), and Jeff (Austin); and his 7 beloved grandchildren, Joseph, John, Michael, Jane, Alexander, Nathaniel and Jonathan.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on July 15th at 11 am with visitation from 10-11 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Bowie, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to World Central Kitchen or Chesapeake Bay Foundation or Habitat For Humanity would be greatly appreciated.
