Gwendolyn “Gwen” Lelia Hill, beloved mother, sister, relative and friend, took her journey to Heaven on October 27, 2024, at the age of 82. She is now with her parents Roland Maurice Hill Sr. and Verleece Brown Hill; sisters Verleece Demetrius Hill Brown and Andreia Priscilla Hill Smith; brothers Roland Maurice Hill Jr., Kenneth Vernon Hill and Calvin Conway Hill; son Steven Troy Hill; and partner William “Bugs” Shorter.
Gwendolyn was born and raised as one of six siblings on August 25, 1942, in Washington, DC. She moved to Maryland in the mid-1970s, eventually purchasing a home in Wheaton in 2002. She earned her GED, and worked in the federal government at several agencies including the Department of Energy and National Labor Relations Board, where she retired in 2005.
One of her greatest joys in life was taking care of her family. They were always her first priority, spending most of her free time cooking, cleaning and ensuring they and the home they shared were neat and spotless. She never wanted for much in life, taking simple pleasures listening to her favorite music, watching her favorite shows (The Steve Harvey Show, Family Feud and Chicago Fire, to name a few) and enjoying holidays with family.
Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her memory her son, Timothy Raynell Hill and daughter, Deborah Carren Hill. She also leaves three grandchildren, Timeka “Pudding” Green, Stephanie “Butter” Green and Tyesha “Precious” Green; six great-grandchildren, Judah Jenkins, Tyhi Green, Jaayah “Lovey” Jenkins, Chloe Green, Selassie St. John and Julio Green; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends who remained in touch over the decades.
Throughout her life, Gwendolyn’s personality and spirit were fun and magnetic, guaranteed to spread love and humor everywhere she went. Her legacy lives on in the fond memories she has shared with all.
A celebration of life in Gwendolyn’s honor will be held on November 17th from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie, MD. Friends and family are welcome to say a few words and share fond memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gwendolyn’s memory to the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org.
