Gwendolyn King

Gwendolyn M. King passed away in Washington, D.C. on March 6, 2023. She was born in Washington, D.C. on January 11, 1955 to Jane Johnson and James Johnson. She attended Spingarn High School and graduated in 1973.  She received a B.A. in Elementary and Special Education at The Catholic University of America in 1977 and pursued post graduate studies in Special Education at the University of the District of Columbia.  She worked as a Special Education Teacher in the Baltimore, MD and Prince George’s County Public Schools for over 35 years finally retiring in 2017. 

She is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years Dr. Francisco King, 4 children, Felicia King Turner (Jason), Veronica Lauren, Wesley, Alexa, Esq.; 2 Grandchildren Harrison and Selina and 4 siblings, Jean Williams, Jane Johnson, David Johnson, and Daryl Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives, and friends.  Her funeral service was held at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Lanham, MD on March 17, 2023. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Matthias Church referencing The Gwendolyn M. King Memorial Scholarship Fund which has been created in her honor.
