Helen A. Strekel

December 14, 1930 — October 8, 2022

Our precious and beloved mother, Helen Ann Strekel, passed away peacefully on Sat., October 8, 2022. She devoted her life to her family-her husband, John, to her two children, Deborah and John T. Strekel, and to her two grandchildren, Taylor and Ryan Strekel!  Helen was an excellent homemaker—one who enjoyed preparing delicious meals, as well as scrumptious baked goods! She always kept a tidy home!  She loved working in her yard and in her flower beds, and looked forward to cutting her grass! An avid sports fan, she especially enjoyed watching NFL games with her family on Sundays, and couldn’t start each morning without a cup of coffee and her paper!  She derived great pleasure from shopping, watching game shows on tv,  doing word search puzzles, spending time at Florida beaches in the fall with her husband, and reading magazines.  Helen never met a stranger!  People gravitated to her because of her sweet nature and smile!  She was a beautiful lady both inside and out! She was also  definitely a talker and a hugger!  Everyone she met loved her! Being married to a military man, who has already “graduated” to the next life, Helen moved the family around the world.  She especially loved living on the island of Okinawa, Japan for 3 wonderful years!  Once Helen’s children were older, she was employed at various department stores and boutiques. She retired from Woodward & Lothrop as an accomplished top salesperson, and was adored by many of her regular customers.  Helen never wanted to be the center of attention, so her funeral services will be private to immediate family members only. Friends, neighbors, and family who want to honor Helen may make donations in her name to the American Heart Association or to the Diabetes Foundation
