Hilda Lane Murphy

Hilda Lane Murphy passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends on October 1, 2026.

Hilda was born in Ellerbe, NC on June 22, 1932. After attending Wingate University, South Carolina College of Nursing, Wake Forest University and the University of Pennsylvania, she pursued a career in nursing that lasted more than 50 years where she spent the majority of her nursing career as a surgical nurse.

She was an avid traveler who thoroughly enjoyed nature and the outdoors as well as spending time with family and friends. She achieved a longtime goal of traveling to all 7 continents. Hilda was passionate about giving back to her community, church, and numerous charities, especially Save the Children.

Hilda is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Francis Thomas Murphy, her parents Frank and Elaine Moore, and brother Robert Leonard Moore.

Hilda is survived by her children Pamela Murphy of Odenton, MD and Thomas Murphy of Midlothian, VA, sister Claudia Moore of Fort Mill, SC, grandchildren Andrew Murphy (Megan), Shannon Riegel (Jason), and Eric Murphy (Allison), and great-grandchildren Quinn Murphy, Theodore Murphy, Leighton Riegel, and Cameron Riegel.

A memorial service will be held on November 7, 2026, 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Crofton, 1690 Crofton Parkway, Crofton, Maryland.
