James Patrick Conroy Jr., age 70, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 10, 2026. A beloved brother, cherished uncle, and respected community icon, Jim lived a life defined by loyalty, service, and an unwavering devotion to his family and friends. Born as the eldest of five siblings, Jim naturally seized the role of “Big Brother” early on, carrying it with pride throughout his life. Raised in District Heights, Maryland, he became a fixture of the community and one of the recognizable “faces” of the District Heights Municipal Center from his teenage years into early adulthood. A graduate of Suitland High School Class of 1974, Jim went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland in 1980. Throughout his life, he remained a passionate sports enthusiast, bringing that same energy and competitive spirit to everything he pursued. He was also an accomplished youth basketball coach for the District Heights Boys and Girls Club, where he mentored many young players. For the past 23 years, Jim was the proud owner and proprietor of Babes Boys Tavern in Waldorf, MD. He loved live music, featured it weekly at Babes Boys, and helped kickstart numerous careers. Under his stewardship, Babes Boys became a cornerstone of Southern Maryland, serving as the home base for the local Lions Club and their many philanthropic missions. Jim played a critical role in these charitable endeavors, always being the first to step up for anyone in need. His legacy at the tavern is shared by a devoted, loving group of colleagues who were the face of the business alongside him many of whom worked by his side for over 20 years and became part of his extended family.

 Above all, Jim was a family man. He was fiercely protective and unwaveringly present for every milestone, celebration, and moment of need. Whether it was a birthday, holiday, graduation, or personal achievement, Jim was there to offer his support. He is survived by his siblings Patricia (Thomas) Geiger, Steven (Lizzy) Conroy, Susan Kreutter, and Robert Conroy. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Leslie, Carly, John, Casey, Emery, and Steven, as well as his great-nieces and nephews, Jack, Ryder, Eli, and Cassidy. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Marlene Conroy. 

The loss of “Jimmy Conroy” leaves a hole in the hearts of many that can never be filled. His family remains eternally grateful and proud of the man he was a true original whose memory will be celebrated for generations to come. A celebration of life will be held in his honor, with dates and times to be announced.
