James (Jimmy) Lee Hammett of Brandywine, Maryland passed away peacefully on February 19,2026. James was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sr. and Peggy Hammett; sister, Peggy Hammett and brother, Joseph Hammett Jr.

Born on May 10, 1954, in Washington, D.C, James worked for Prince George's Public Works department for 31 years. After happily retiring on July 1, 2021, he spent his life enjoying his grandchildren, watching football games (especially rooting for his Washington Redskins), playing along with family feud, and being with his friends. He was always an easy-going and friendly man who loved life, sharing meals and conversations with those he loved.

James is survived by his wife Amy Hammett and their children Tad Hammett (Brenda) of Laurel, Maryland; Andrew Hammett (Rebecca) of Bowie, Maryland; and Sara Aquino (Matthew) of Lorton, Virginia; six grandchildren, sister Linda Chialastri, brother Billy Hammett and many nieces and nephews.
