James Clarence Patrick, 99, of Bowie MD died peacefully in his sleep on July 12, 2026 at Sunrise of Annapolis. He was born in St. Paul, VA.

From February 1945 to July 1946, James proudly served as Seaman Second Class, serving in the US Navy on the destroyer USS Corry during World War II. He left high school after 2.5 years to serve his country. He was honorably discharged and returned home to graduate from St. Paul High School in 1947.

After high school he attended Milligan College in Tennessee. During college break, he traveled to Washington, DC to obtain a summer job. That move turned into a 49-year career with the Associated Press. His various jobs at the AP included: Copy Boy, Wirephoto Operator, and Dark Room Technician. The job took him to such places as The White House, The Capitol, National Conventions for both parties, major sports events such as The Masters Golf Tournament, Redskins playoffs, and the1970 World Series won by the Baltimore Orioles. He worked in Texas for a couple of years with the majority of his career working in Washington, DC.

He was a devoted family man who loved sports and enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in their various sports endeavors including college teams. He was also an avid gardener.

His wife, Betty Patrick of 57 years preceded him in death in 2011. He is survived by his son, Robert Patrick & his wife Kathy, twin daughters Margaret Patrick Bone and her husband Ted, Nancy Patrick DeVera, 9 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation is Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Beall Funeral Home 6512 NW Crain Hwy (Rt 3 south), Bowie, MD 20715.
