James Michael Skarwecki, 68 years old, passed peacefully on March 18th, 2026, in the comfort of his home with family in Bowie, Md.

Born in Aberdeen, Md. on March 26, 1957, to Mabel and Joe Skarwecki, he joined an already growing family with 3 other siblings at home, followed later by 2 younger brothers. Jim was a 1975 Graduate of Arundel High School, with additional education at UMD.

During his several summers at the beach, he considered himself a true Beach Bum. He enjoyed being a lifeguard at Rehoboth Beach before working with and becoming the night shift warehouse manager for CCS Distributors in Landover.

Later Jim transitioned to working for his older brother Joe, in the swimming pool business; MidAtlantic Shotcrete Services Inc. which would be the beginning of his next journey. He started his own company in 2003 called Mid-Atlantic Pool and Spa Plumbing Systems, working with both commercial and private residence.

Jim met Annie at Fort Miles Beach in Delaware, which was a designated beach for military personnel and their families. He joined her and several other families at a bonfire on the beach and that started their life's journey. She had a son from a previous marriage that Jim embraced as his own and who Geoffrey only knew as his dad. Annie and Jim had two additional children, Amanda and Travis.

After retiring in 2008 Jim fed his creative side in the kitchen providing daily for his family. He enjoyed learning and sharing different tricks for food and garden and was always proud of what he grew but often wanted to improve or tweak and expand the recipes. Every birthday the question "What cake do you want?" was asked. We wanted to stump his culinary experiments and started asking for more intricate options, but he was always up for the challenge. Two specific cakes that stood out were a 'Protein' cake for his health-conscious gym member grandson and a 'Lumberjack' cake for Travis. Everything was always made from scratch and would have up to a week or more of research.

He enjoyed being outdoors which included grilling, golf, skeet shooting, beach and mountain vacations, annual trips with his brothers for a dozen or so years, which included camping, fishing, and exchanging stories. Early on in their marriage, Jim and Annie added Ray Ban, a Black Lab and Chamois, a Golden Retriever to their pack. This grew into volunteering to eval, transport, foster and adopt several of their Labradors.

At the top of his personal favorites was reading books, some multiple times. Doing daily newspaper sudoku and crossword puzzles, reading the comic sections watching old Westerns, Twilight Zone or Sci-Fi kept his mind alert and ready for teaching moments.

Jimmy leaves behind his wife Annie of 40 years, his eldest son Geoffrey, daughter Amanda, son Travis, and one grandson Dominic. His oldest brother Joe (Michele), Sister Debbie (Greg), Danny (Marie), and David (Laura).
Jim was preceded in death by parents, sister Jeannie, and nephew Danny. Jimmy had 14 nieces and nephews: Joe, Julie, Katie, Jenny, Bonnie, Becky, Matt, Adrienne, Michael, Emily, Lina, A.J., and Maria.

With the love he had for good food and in his memory, we thought you might consider taking your family out for dinner and share stories of Jim or create something in the kitchen in his honor.

This will be considered his memorial.

It's been suggested that a family and friends' reunion is being considered to take place in July around the 4th.
