Jane Hunt, aka JaneyLou, Smitty, George, Aunt Jane, Mama Jane, Grandma and Mom, passed away suddenly at her Crofton home on May 1st, 2023. She was born to Robert and Viola Smith on May 22 1941 and raised in North Arlington, New Jersey. She was an avid Yankees fan, and such an avid fan that she was once inspired to paint a baseball diamond in her neighbor’s yard with the neighbor’s house paint. She later graduated from North Arlington High school where she was a member of the Women’s club and president of the Honor Society.
Jane went to Ursinus College where, along with a degree in Political Science, sh earned notoriety as the ultimate George Burns impersonator. After graduating she immediately began work for NSA, where she met her future husband Ronald A Hunt. She also worked as a probation officer and foremost and finally as a caring social worker for the State of Maryland in Charles and Anne Arundel counties. She went above and beyond her duties to care and advocate for struggling women and children. She briefly retired from the state in 2006 and then returned in 2009 to work part time as a contractor for about 5 years.
When Jane and Ron married on April 3rd, 1963, she was instantly welcomed as a member of the Hunt family and gained brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews galore while also remaining close to her New Jersey Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, the Smiths and Doehrbecks.
In between careers, Jane and her family had the opportunity to travel and live in England and later the Philippines. In England Jane made lifelong friends and acquired her love for all things British, but especially Allsorts liquorice, wine gums, crumpets and, of course, Queen Elizabeth.
Jane loved to sing and was involved with SweetAdelines International for many years. She attended her first contest in 1973 with the Dundalk chorus and later sang with the Elkridge chorus for years, serving as a contributor for their newsletter the Elkridge Piper, and also serving as chapter president at least twice. She instilled her love of singing in her daughters, who grew up attending rehearsals and performing with the chorus. She was proud to watch her daughters and grandkids perform, and was always happy to tell you.
A long time member of Community United Methodist Church, Jane often volunteered in the baby pantry, and since the pandemic, really enjoyed attending Sunday service online from the comfort of her bed.
No matter which aspect of life people shared with Jane, she was known and loved for her sharp wit as well as her quiet caring and kind manner. She truly blessed the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ronald A Hunt. She leaves behind 2 daughters, Nancy Hunt Disney of Baltimore and Jennifer Kuethe of Columbia, 6 grandchildren; Samantha Squires, Andrew Squires, Abby Disney and Alex, Will and Charlotte Kuethe; a large extended family that she loved as her own blood; several grand-pets and so many friends who considered her family.
