Janice McConkey Bridgers

Janice Ray McConkey Bridgers passed away on June 14, 2023, at age 82.  She was born October 3, 1940, in Washington DC, to Raymond McConkey and Edna Brown.  Janice was a 1958 graduate of Suitland High School.  She married George (Carl) Carlton Bridgers November 9, 1963.  Carl preceded her in death in 2018. Janice and Carl owned and operated The Barbarian Book Shop in Wheaton, MD, and The Magic Page in Bowie, MD.  Janice could do anything she put her mind to.  Whether it was restoring her classic cars or performing construction work on her home, she always kept busy.  She loved being outside with nature and loved all animals.  She was a natural artist and enjoyed painting. 

Janice was preceded in death by a brother Allen McConkey.  She is survived by her brother Carl Hayes; her four children and their spouses Darren, Adrienne and Alan, Scott and Christian and Gabrielle; and her five grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Joseph, Lily and Liam. 

A private burial service will be held at Cheltenham Cemetery Thursday, July 20, at 2:30 pm.
