Jeannette “Jeannie” Marie Ripley passed away peacefully on May 20th, surrounded by family and friends after a brief battle with multiple illnesses. She was born on January 13, 1951, in Washington, DC to parents John Vincent Motta, Jr. and Frances Marie Motta (Verant), both of whom preceded her in death. Jeannie attended DuVal High School in Lanham and graduated with the Class of 1969.

Jeannie is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Robert Allen Ripley Sr.; her three children: Bobbi Ripley Holtzman (Jim), Joanne Dial (Steve), and Robert Ripley Jr. (Julie); her sister, Carol Linder; and her brother, John Motta III (Marie). She is also survived by two grandchildren, Dylan Takemori and Reagan Ripley, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Her love extended far beyond her family. Jeannie had an incredible passion for all animals—furry, feathered, and aquatic. Throughout her life, she opened her heart and home to many animal companions, lovingly caring for those in need, whether they were homeless, injured, or elderly. Her nurturing spirit and commitment to their well-being touched countless lives. In addition to her love for animals, Jeannie had a fondness for vintage cars. Her time spent in local car clubs introduced her to many wonderful friends who will deeply miss her kindness and laughter.

Jeannie devoted 49 years of her life serving local municipality governments, culminating in her role as Code Enforcement Manager for the City of College Park, where she retired in 2018. Her dedication to maintaining the city’s standards and enhancing the quality of life for its residents was unwavering. In addition, as a lifelong resident of the Town of Landover Hills, she actively participated in local government, fulfilling roles as both a council member and vice mayor. Jeannie was truly a passionate advocate for her community, and her legacy of service and leadership will resonate for years to come. Her warm heart and steadfast spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
