JoAnne Marie Gibbs
 April 21, 1949 – January 14, 2024

JoAnne M Gibbs, daughter of the late Gwendolyn A. Jefferson-Stanmore and Charles Jefferson, was born in Washington, D.C., on April 21, 1949.  She was called home to take her eternal rest on Sunday, January 14, 2024, while surrounded by family and loved ones.

JoAnne was born and raised in the District of Columbia and received her education in the D.C. Public School System.  JoAnne started working at the age of 10, pulling groceries at a local Safeway.   She dedicated more than 30 years of faithful service to the federal government, with 25 of those years as a civilian employee of the Department of the Army.  She also worked as an administrative assistant for Airbus Defense and Space Inc. for 10 years before retiring in 2015.  After retiring, she worked as an Uber driver, forming cherished friendships with many of her passengers.

JoAnne grew up attending Asbury United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C., and later attended Mount Jezreel Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD.  After moving to Delaware, she joined Worship Christian Center where she remained until her passing.

All who knew JoAnne knew she was a stylish fashionista.  From her hat to her shoes, she was always matching and fly.  Far more impressive than her dress was her heart of gold.   She was the epitome of love, compassion, and kindness.  She loved the Lord and was a constant source of inspiration forming strong bonds that transcended friendships and enriched the lives of all she encountered.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her son, Anthony (Tony) Gibbs; Sisters: Evelyn Smith, Dorothy Wilson, Annette Brown-Cortez, Charlene Watson, and Betty Robinson; Brothers: John Stanmore Jr., Jerry Stanmore, and Darryl Garner; and niece Imani Wilson.   She leaves to cherish the precious memories of her life:  Sisters: Shirley Tave, Brenda Goodwin, Abigail Jefferson, Carlene Jefferson-Wilson, Beverly Whitfield; Brother: Dwayne Whitfield; Goddaughters Katrina Peterson and Natalie Crewe; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Arrangements are as follows:  Viewing, service and repass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, January 29 at the Church of Jesus Christ located at 3456 Pennsylvania Ave., SE, Washington, D.C. 20020.   The Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.

Flowers can be sent to Church of Jesus Christ.  Cards can be mailed to the home of Dwayne Whitfield at 15612 Atlantis Drive, Bowie, MD 20716.
