John W. Blake

John William Blake, age 87 of Bowie, Maryland passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024 at his home on Crosswick Turn surrounded by his loving family.

John was born to William and Cecelia Blake on October 2, 1936 in Cumberland, Maryland. He graduated from La Salle High School in 1955. After which, he attended Frostburg State College and received his Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in History. He later received his master’s degree from Frostburg State College in school counseling.

On November 26, 1960, John married June Patricia Bush also of Cumberland, Maryland. John and June settled in Bowie, Maryland where they lived for over 60 years. John and June raised three children, Mary Karen Klosterman, Carole Elizabeth Blake and Patrick Howard Blake who all graduated from Bowie High School. 

John is best remembered for his counseling at Thomas Johnson Middle School. He had 36 years of service in the Prince Georges County Public School system. John and June were parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and active members of the Knights of Columbus. John loved college football and had fond memories of trips to Notre Dame games with his best friends. 

John is survived by his wife June Patricia Blake; his son Patrick Blake, his daughter Mary Karen Klosterman, her husband Kenneth Klosterman and their children Laura Spencer and Megan Klosterman. He is also survived by Carole Blake, her husband Thomas Schell and their daughter Cassidy Schell. 

Arrangements are being made by Beall Funeral Home at 6512 Crain Highway, Bowie Maryland 20715. Guests will be received on February 9^th between 5-7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bowie, Maryland located at 16501 Annapolis Road on February 10^th at 12 noon in the chapel. The chapel is located behind the main church on top of the hill. Interment to follow mass at the Sacred Heart cemetery.
