Joycelyn E. Boissiere

July 28, 1939 — May 20, 2022

Joycelyn (Joyce or Joycie) Eleanor Sybil Boissiere (nee Davis) was born in, Trinidad on July 28th, 1939 to Doris and Simeon Davis.  She was the 10th of 12 children.  She had fond memories of her childhood and remained close to her siblings throughout her life.

In 1961, she married Selwyn Applewhite and the union produced 2 children – Anthony (dec) (Tony) and Winell.

She later met and married Kelvin (Kelly) Boissiere until his passing in 2013.

In 1970, she and Kelly migrated to the United States and settled in the Washington D.C. area.  She obtained an Associates of Arts degree in Accounting and worked for 20+ years with the Nigerian Embassy as a Bookkeeper.  She was known for her precision with numbers and math.  This did not always bode well with her grandchildren when she oversaw or reviewed their homework.   After leaving the embassy, she worked for a few companies and finally retired in January, 2013 from the Prince Georges County Department of Social Services.  She was a diligent employee and always took pride in her work.

Joyce had a sweet, infectious spirit that touched everyone around her.   She was elegant, graceful, and enjoyed shopping.   She loved to sing and dance and was the life of all gatherings.  She enjoyed travelling and visited many countries and took many cruises with her longtime friends Olive (Maria) and Arlene until she was no longer able to travel.  Her love of travel is alive in her daughter and grandchildren.

Joyce was a loving, supportive and devoted mother and grandmother.  Her son Tony precedes her in death. Her daughter Winell and grandchildren Travis and Alexa were her world – spending many evenings, weekends and vacations with them.

She was an active member of Largo Community Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School.

After being diagnosed with dementia, Joyce was no longer able to live independently. In 2017 she became a resident of Springtime Home in Lake Arbor where she enjoyed fellowship with the other residents and received loving care from Serica.

Joyce passed this life peacefully in the early afternoon on Friday May 20th, 2022.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Winell (Miguel); grandchildren Travis and Alexa; sister Sheila; brother Neville; special family members Gloria (Eddie), Diane (Bunny), Denise (David); a host of nieces and nephews: Learie (Jessie), Richard, Hazel, Karen (John), Gillian, Ann Marie, Annette, Allyson (Lloyd), Claire, Karla (Troy), Arden, Taiesha (Jason), Ashlee, David, Wendell & Fate; special friends Olive, Christine, Clorine & Arlene; and several grand nieces and nephews.
