Judith Ann Wiest

March 23, 1942 — October 29, 2025

Bowie, MD

On October 29, 2025, Judith Ann Wiest, 83, of Annapolis, Maryland went home to be with the Lord, four days after suffering a debilitating stroke. She passed peacefully at Heart Homes of Bay Ridge assisted living facility, surrounded by loving family, and truly amazing caregivers.

Born on March 23, 1942 in Montgomery County, Maryland to Harvey Simms and May Pennell, Judy graduated from Bladensburg High School and then spent most of her life in Bowie, Maryland, Williamsburg, Virginia, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She worked at Citizens National Bank in Bowie, and had two wonderful children, James Thorpe (Cindy) and Sherie Thorpe Mazzei (Tony). She remarried in 1992 to Peter Wiest and relocated to Williamsburg and then eventually Lancaster. When Peter passed, she returned to Annapolis, Maryland to be near her children.

Judy enjoyed gardening, collecting primitive and antique items, watching Hallmark movies, and being with family, including her two children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Judy loved Christmas and had many decorated trees in her house. Her room in the assisted living facility displayed Christmas decorations and lights all year round. She also loved the changing colors of the leaves in autumn. Although she enjoyed those times of year, she hated being cold and cornered the market on wool clothing and blankets. Judy also loved watching Christmas movies, especially Christmas Vacation and Elf, with whom she shared a love for sweets. Despite her tiny frame, Judy enjoyed pies, donuts, and danishes, but nothing compared to her love of chocolate. The Hershey Company will also mourn her passing.

Judy loved God and trusted Jesus as her savior. She is now home with Him and with her loved ones who have gone before her. Judy is predeceased by her loving husband Peter Wiest, her parents, Harvey and May Simms, brother Eddie Simms, son, James Thorpe, and daughter, Sherie Thorpe Mazzei. These were the loves of her life, and she cherished her memories of them throughout her later years. She is survived by her son-in-law Tony Mazzei, daughter-in-law, Cindy Thorpe, as well as her grandchildren; Matt Thorpe (Jaime), Cathy Thorpe, Liz Bowie (Darrin), Mary Kirby (Shawn), Jennifer, Havelka-Rudolph, Sarah Merson (Josh), Brady Mazzei (Baylee), Jake Mazzei (Maria), Cooper Mazzei, Benjamin Hall (Talear) and Thomas Hall Sr. (Kari) and great grandchildren;, Skye Thorpe, Molly Thorpe, Autumn Fabian, Cayden Farrington, Evan, Farrington, Vienna Phipps, Chavelle Phipps, Jocelyn Rudolph, Kai Mazzei, Miller Merson, Boston Mazzei, Dion Frisoen Marrow-Hall, Thomas Hall Jr, Mi’Lehya Marrow-Hall, and Braylin Marrow-Hall.

Friends are invited to celebrate Judy‘s life at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy (Rt 3 South), Bowie MD on Monday, November 3, 2025. Viewing is from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the same location. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, Maryland.
