Katherine (Kay) Basim Ferree, age 95, long time resident of Greensburg, PA, died on May 27, 2023 while in nursing care at Delmar Gardens in Lawrenceville, Georgia after a long period of declining health.  We, her family, are all very sad to lose her but relieved that she is not suffering any longer. We are grateful to the many people who loved, helped, and cared for her in her later years.

Katherine was born September 24, 1927 in Bowie Maryland, the youngest of four sisters, to Mary (Luers) and J. Leslie Basim. She was raised and attended school in Bowie. After graduation, she took a secretarial course and worked for a few years as a secretary at the IRS in Washington D. C. She married Herbert Ferree in 1954, shortly after he was discharged from the Air Force. A couple years later they moved to Greensburg Pennsylvania where they lived most of their married life and raised their children.

She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and needlework, and creating greeting cards on her computer. She was an active member of Christ's Church Greensburg,

Katherine was predeceased by her husband Herbert in 2020. She is survived by daughter Nancy Ferree, and sons Jim Ferree and his wife Linda, and Dan Ferree and his wife Kim. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patrick and Sam Mitchell, Paul (Erin) Ferree, Jay (Chia-Hsuan) Ferree, Carly (Nathan) Favero, Matthew (Jessica) Ferree, and Ben Ferree, and great-grandchildren Jefferson and Rebecca Ferree.

A funeral service will be held at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD 20715, on June 9. Visitation begins at 10:00 am with service at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, we suggest memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).
